Man Living In Vietnam Claims To Be Missing Prisoner Of War
Later Life and Death
Dengler lived out the rest of his life in the San Francisco hills. He was married three times and was eventually diagnosed with ALS, a neurological disorder. On February 7, 2001, he rolled his wheelchair from his house to a fire station where he shot himself. He was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetary.
Here, a squadron of F14s flew over his grave in order to give one final tribute to his service, as well as his remarkable getaway back to the United States, and freedom.
