One of the first films to be released by Appian Way Productions was indeed another collaboration between DiCaprio and Scorsese, the 2005 epic biographical drama The Aviator.
The movie received widespread critical acclaim, grossing an incredible $214 million at the box office. It was also nominated for a whopping eleven Academy Awards, winning five. Scorsese and DiCaprio would go on to work together in several movies produced by Appian Way, each of them stunning both visually and in the on-screen performances.
For his performance in The Aviator, DiCaprio had received an Oscar Nomination for Best Actor, but the prize eventually went to Jamie Foxx for his role as Ray Charles in Ray.
This was the second time DiCaprio had narrowly missed out on an Academy Award, but it wouldn’t be his last. DiCaprio would actually go on to be nominated a total of five times without ever pinching the trophy, and he became something of an internet sensation as fans sympathized with him greatly along his long, tantalizing quest for an Oscar.
