The survivors scrambled to save other people, but it was already too late for the rest of the passengers. Despite the chaos that surrounded them, they had the good sense to regroup and organize.
The surviving passengers had found a few bottles of wine, some food, but not enough to survive for long. They were in the middle of the Andes and finding help there was almost impossible. Immediately after the crash, the Chilean Air Search and Rescue Service (SARS) was informed that the flight was gone. Four planes searched this afternoon until nightfall, but to no avail. How could the passengers survive in freezing cold and almost without food?
