Walking Palm Trees
Are you a huge fan of the trilogy “The Lord of The Rings”? If yes, be sure to be amazed when you see these tall trees that looked like the “Ents” in this movie. They are tall with elongated roots; it resembles human legs on the first glimpse. They named it the “walking tree” because it literally walks like us humans, it’s root tends to grow towards the sunlight, so you’ll notice that as it grows further, it moves.
It is a palm native to the Amazon’s rainforest; it can grow up to 25 meters in height with a stem diameter of 16 cm on average. It was described that as the soil erodes, the tall trees roots find new and more solid ground then the roots slowly settle in the new soil, and the trees bend patiently toward the new roots and the old roots slowly will be lifted into the air. It can take a couple of years for the whole process for the trees to resettle to another place with better sunlight and more solid ground.
