The basin of the Amazon is one of the largest and most robust river systems in the world. But it turns out that we only knew half of the story. Hamza River is an underground river that discovered 4kilometer beneath the Amazon. It was considered the largest underground river in the world that flows slowly beneath the Amazon basin. Could you imagine how long this river could be? Researchers estimate this subterranean river appears 6,000 kilometers long and hundreds of times more extensive than the Amazon. The discovery of this river was in 2011 when analyzing temperatures from 241 abandoned deep wells that drilled in the Amazon region. The Hamza river is only unofficial named in respect to the scientist Valiya Hamza who is the head of the team research who initiated the study on the region in four years.
