1. A priceless art collection
The Royal Collection of Art is one of Queen Elizabeth's many responsibilities. There are over a million items in this collection, and around 150,000 of them are by master artists such as Rembrandt and Raphael. Clearly, she has great taste. The Royal Collection is one of the largest and most important art collections in the world and one of the last major royal collections in Europe to remain intact.
Covering almost every aspect of the fine and decorative arts and numbering over a million items, the collection is a unique and valuable testament to the personal tastes of kings and queens over the past 500 years. After the execution of Charles I in 1649, most of the king's magnificent possessions were sold on the orders of Oliver Cromwell, and the royal collection has been greatly expanded since the restoration of the monarchy in 1660.
