As we all know, Meghan Markle made history when she married Prince Harry, son of the Prince of Wales, in May 2018, being the first biracial woman to become Duchess in memory. The couple have been a media sensation since 2016, and the two still continue to make headlines – albeit for a different reasons. It seems that Meghan didn’t really like the royal life after all. She has spoken about the tough rules she has had to follow while she was staying in the royal palace. One of which required her to keep quite about her mental health, as it is not what they royals approve of: speaking about mental health in public.
Indeed, she and Harry announced in January 2020 that they were stepping down from their royal duties and moving to Canada on a part-time basis. At least, that’s what was planned. The point is, members of the royal family cannot “resign” from their posts as common folks would from their jobs. But Harry and Meghan had to find a way to actually step down as working royal members, in order to live their lives the way they wanted to. To understand why Meghan has seemed to steer clear of the Royal Family and their many obligations, it’s important to understand her past. Where did she come from and how did this young American find a British prince?
