Retention of their title
Everyone should now be aware of Meghan and Harry’s recent separation from the royal family. But, radical as the news may sound, know that the couple have not completely lost their membership in royalty. They are still recognized by the Queen as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. However, there is a change in their honorary titles that they will have to adopt to, after their exit from the royal family. This includes not being able to officially use the title that the Queen has withdrawn from them.
Although she is still the Duchess of Sussex, neither Meghan nor Harry any longer carry the official title of “Her Royal Highness”. On the other hand, an official statement from the monarchy indicates that the couple will retain their titles of duke and duchess, but that the parts relating to the royal highness are dropped because they “are no longer active members of the Royal family”. A little confused, isn’t it? Well, it is what it is. We are glad that the couple are now able to live a life of their choice, regardless of the loss of the titles. What matters is that they, as a couple, have come this far on their journey together.
