Although the aircraft are designed to accommodate only one piece of luggage per passenger, your extra luggage will hardly affect the situation. Aircraft must have the correct centre of gravity to take off. Depending on the amount of checked baggage stowed on the plane, most airlines are accustomed to using sandbags to lighten the weight. However, this does not necessarily explain why airlines charge you for extra luggage, but we don’t set the rules.
